Easter Weekend Treasure Hunt Adventure at Stroud's

This morning, Ben and I went on a hike at the Blackhaw Accessibility Trail at Stroud's Run. During our walk, Ben noticed a photo ID laying in the water, near the mouth of a culvert. We brought it home, and I googled the person on the ID. It turns out he's a professor at Ohio University! I emailed him and said I'd be happy to pop his ID in the mail.

He wrote back and said that he had lost his wallet at Stroud's over a week ago, and despite going back several times and scouring the area, he was unable to find it. He asked if I could give him a sense of where I found the ID, so he could go back and look in that area. Since I live close to Stroud's, I figured it would be easier to just head back there and take some photos of the area to send him!

I marked an "X" on the trail at the spot with the culvert.

And shared several photos to show where it was on the trail.

This time, I wore my rubber boots, and actually hopped down into the water to peek in the culvert.

And right away, I found some more cards! An insurance card, a credit card, and a Bagel Street Deli punch card. I grabbed those out of the water.

Then I used my camera to zoom in further down the tunnel to see if I could see any other treasures. There were definitely more cards back in there! Although I was tempted to continue the exciting hunt and try to retrieve the cards, I decided that would be way too wet and muddy. I emailed these photos to the professor.

He went to the culvert later that evening, and his wife crawled in the tunnel and retrieved several more cards, including his driver's license! How exciting! I left the cards that I found in my mailbox for him to pick up (social distancing).

He sent me this email at the end of the ordeal:

"Thank you so very much for all your kindness in helping me retrieve my wallet items, and in a time of a pandemic no less.

I had actually lost hope of ever finding it, but your act of kindness has renewed my sense of hope on a more important scale."

I think it's very important for us all to maintain hope these days! I'm glad I was able to help.

Welcome to the family, Lucy!

Mer, Pete and Kate got a DOG!!!!! People deciding to adopt dogs is definitely one of the silver linings to coronavirus quarantine.

They named her Lucy, and she is really silly and sweet!

It's been so fun to do socially-distanced walks in the neighborhood with Felix and my sissie and her DOG!!! I can't believe my sister has a dog!! Five years ago, I never would have even thought *I* would have a dog and now we both do!

Speaking of my dog, I sure do love him a lot.

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love!!!

Happy 40th birthday, Ben!

Today is Ben's 40th birthday! We were supposed to celebrate with a big family birthday party at Salaam, but unfortunately we are still in COVID-19 quarantine life. We still found plenty of ways to celebrate!

The cherry trees are blooming and today was a beautiful, sunny day. We took Felix down to the trees and had a picnic!

We got carry out from Bagel Street Deli. This is the Pretzel Carruso.

Wendy's Way.

Reuben.

The bagels were delicious, and it was nice to get some fresh air and enjoy the sunshine!

Little Kate dropped off a birthday surprise! She baked these sea salt chocolate chunk cookies for Ben.

We had a socially-distanced happy hour Zoom call with lots of friends and family! It was nice to see everyone!

Ben requested Philly cheesesteak skillet for his birthday dinner. Yum!! Local flank steak with mushrooms and provolone.

And Smitten Kitchen's Sour Cream-Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting and Chocolate-Peanut Butter Glaze for an epic birthday treat worthy of a fortieth birthday.

That right there is forty candles, ladies and gentlemen!

With coffee ice cream. Yum!! Happy birthday, Ben! Welcome to the forties club!

Epic Women-Only Dance Party Sleepover

Summer's birthday was earlier this week, and she celebrated by hosting an epic women-only sleepover dance party this weekend. DJ Barticus brought his DJ station and lights! He was the only man allowed in the house (J was out of town). It was so amazing to be surrounded by so many wonderful ladies, and we danced our butts off for hours and hours!

Less than a week later, Ohio was asked to shelter in place as the world responded to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. Although we didn't know it at the time, this was the last time we would see each other in person for a very long time!

Summer and Billie!

Susan!

Summer had Mauvette cater a delicious Jamaican buffet.

Spicy jerk chicken, Yaad-style oxtail, herb vegan bean cakes, shrimp macaroni and cheese and a slew of sides.

Back to the dancing!

When my one request of the night (Billy Joel's Tell Her About It Jellybean Remix) came on, I didn't have to ask Summer twice to go get her sequin jacket out!

Sparkles!!!

BFF.

Vana and Kayla!

Sisters!

Emily!

Yumi!

Kara was the last dancer standing!

There was also hot tub fun and delicious brunch fun the following morning. This party filled my heart so much, it's nice to look back on these pictures during the coronavirus quarantine!
