Moving a Musician

This weekend, a family friend moved to Athens! His name is Paul and he is a musician. He was living in Rhode Island, but wanted to be in a more central location so that he could get to his gigs more easily. We rounded up a bunch of strong guys and helped him move! The truck was filled with furniture and lots and lots of records.

Once everything had been unpacked, it was time for the Grand Finale. Paul's piano!

Ben is practically a professional piano mover at this point. Since we met, this is his SIXTH piano that he's helped move! (First time, second time, third time, fourth time, fifth time).

Watching people move pianos makes me pretty nervous.

It takes a lot of concentration and strength. The ramp is the scariest part to watch!

Making its way into the house!

Dad found some tools that he could help with!

Helping! Hahaha. Look at Kirby's face.

Me taking a picture of Dad helping.

Dad, Paul and a huge board.

Yay, it's in! And it fits!

There was actually one last thing in the truck. A soccer ball. Kate had the honor of removing that!

It was a successful move. Welcome to Athens, Paul!

Still True Today

My mom found these old worksheets that I filled out when I was little. There was no date, so I'm not sure how old I was when I did them. But they're still totally true today!

Cooking Club Brunch

Nancy hosted a cooking club brunch this morning! What a fantastic theme! Valerie's contribution was an amazing Bloody Mary bar. Don't mind if I do! She even made pickled green beans!

There aren't many things more beautiful on this planet than the sight of your friends walking toward you with platters of food. Hi, friends!

Especially when one of those food items is a jar of bacon!

Mmm. Delicious, local bacon!

And just in time to go into my Bloody Mary! Cheers!

I made an asparagus, spinach and feta quiche. My first quiche!!! Exciting!!! It turned out really well.

There is Summer's masterpiece! Cheers! It's so fun to create your own Bloody Mary with the fixings of your choice. We all agreed that we could probably base an entire cooking club around Bloody Marys!

Yumi made little potato-zucchini cakes. Cute!

Nancy made homemade bagels!! Nancy's homemade bagels are SOOOOO delicious. I was very excited that they were on the brunch menu. Served with cream cheese, lox and capers!

Slice of quiche. Look at all that greenery!

All together now. Oh, Emily brought a delicious salad, too! And Valerie brought some local cherries to snack on.

After we ate brunch, we swam and floated in the pool for a long time. Eventually, we were ready for dessert. Summer made an amazing strawberry merengue treat.

It was like a fluffy, dreamy CLOUD!!! In our mouths!!!! With homemade whipped cream inside.

After some more swimming, we were ready for Second Dessert! Emily made a cherry clafouti using tart cherries from the Farmer's Market!

Mmm, eggy deliciousness.

Baby Charlotte was our special guest! Look at her little SWIM SUIT!!! It's so cute. Charlotte was a bit tired from not having a very good nap, but she still managed to have a great time with the ladies and provided a lot of entertainment and cuteness.

I arrived at Nancy's house at 11:30 a.m. and didn't leave until 6:30 p.m.! I'd say that is a successful cooking club! Possibly a record for longest? We just ate and floated all day long. Mmm.

Father's Day

Meredith and Pete hosted us for a Father's Day dinner tonight! I brought mojito supplies, because by now I think it's safe to say that they are definitely officially our traditional family cocktail.

Buster! a.k.a. Mr. Handsome.

Mer and Pete grilled up some delicious chicken thighs.

And a giant bowl of Farmer's Market veggies!

MILESTONE ALERT: Tonight we taught Kate how to use a fork and knife. She was really good at it!!

Look at her go!

After dinner, Kate and Grandpa worked on making a special place for Baby to take a nap.

Uh, I want to take a nap there! That looks awesome!

Baby is resting, as Tiger looks on.

Shhh, don't wake Baby!

Every event that includes a cake features Kate asking "Is it time for cake?" at least fifty times between the time that we finish the dinner and the actual cake time.

Cake time!

After that rich, chocolatey delicious cake, we were in for another treat. Apparently Dad had set this up with Kate beforehand, and she was in charge of distributing. Look at how serious she is about it!

So serious.

During their trip to Pennsylvania, Mom and Dad went to a store that sold old-fashioned candy. He bought us all Valomilks to try! Creamy Flowing Marshmallow inside!

Marshmallow on the inside, chocolate on the outside! ICE CREAM PAINT JOB!

It really was flowing! It was so sweet. After a piece of cake and a Valomilk, I was experiencing a major sugar rush! I am not complaining.

I think Kate had TWO pieces of cake. Here she appears to be about to enter a sugar coma. MMMMMMM. What a night! Happy Father's Day, Dad and Pete! We love you!
