Akron Girl's Weekend!

This weekend we had a Girl's Weekend! The lovely Kara was our host. Friday night, we played Trivial Pursuit TV Edition from the 1980's, and Cranium. That Trivial Pursuit game was IMPOSSIBLE. But it was funny. Then we ordered a delicious pizza! And drank beer.

Saturday morning, we went to Dodie's for breakfast. It was delicious as usual! Then we did some shopping at Gabe's. After that we headed to Mrs. Ticklemore's at West Point Market for some tea. It was SUPER fancy. We each got our own tea pot and ordered a bunch of tiny tea treats. After tea we shopped around the market and I found Franziskaner! My favorite beer from San Francisco! I stocked UP! I can't wait to drink it.

Then it was time to head home for showers. We got ready and then headed to 69 Taps. 69 beers! On tap! I got to try one of my favorites, Bar Harbor Blueberry, on tap. They also had Wyder's Pear Cider, which I enjoyed in San Fran. Mmm, and Pyramid Apricot Ale! Kara had won a party there, so we used that and got $2 pints and free pizza.

Next up we went to House of Hunan. Anne and I split some sushi and it was delicious! Then we went to Thursday's for some fun and dancing. They were playing awesome music the whole night. Except it sucked when Beth went up to request Europe's Final Countdown for our group and the DJ was a big jerk about it and wouldn't play it.

It was a great night, and when we got back to Kara's we played Egyptian Rat Screw. The next morning we went to the Mustard Seed for breakfast. They have a natural foods buffet and it was AWESOME. I kept switching between breakfasty things and lunch things. Mmmm. What a weekend!

Happy 30th, Matt!

My buddy Matt turned 30 tonight! To celebrate, a bunch of us gathered at Casa. Matt was born on 3/30, at 3:30, and he turned 30 today. Isn't that CRAZY? Anyway, it definitely was an occasion for Irish Car Bombs!

JR's Donut Castle/Coolville Ridge Cooldown

Last night at Purple Chopstix, Mer was suddenly struck by an incredible idea. We would leave for Parkersburg, West Virginia this morning at 7 a.m., to visit JR's Donut Castle for some freshies!

The final race of the Gravel Rouser Classic was to begin at 10, so we were hoping to get to the starting line by 9-ish to surprise the racers with the donuts. These are some of the most delicious donuts known to man.

So I picked up Mer and Michelle at 7 and our road trip began! We got to JR's and had a great time picking out donuts. And eating them. Then we piled back in the car and headed back towards Athens. As we were approaching this one car, my sister noticed that the driver had GIANT hair. She was about to comment on how she must be on her way to church when we realized she was a DRAG QUEEN! And so was her passenger! It was awesome! I paced their car so Mer could snap a picture.

Back in Athens, the racers scarfed some donuts then headed off for a couple of hours of riding. I headed back into town to do some errands, and came back to the country for the finish line festivities, and brought Rose.

It was a great prelude-to-spring sort of afternoon. We lounged around in inner tubes on the sunny hillside, with glasses of Blue Moon from the keg. Totally relaxing and nice. I can't wait for spring to get here!

Irish Car Bomb Weekend!

Last night after the Grab & Git party, I headed over to Missy's party. As soon as we got there, it was Irish Car Bomb Time! Just like at conference last year, the only available Guinness was Extra Stout, so they were a bit rough. But still delicious!

Then tonight, Mer, Summer, Michelle and I went to Purple Chopstix for dinner. Since it's BYOB, we brought ICB supplies! We also got some of the employees to do them with us! Cheers!

The Presenter

So in the past couple of months, Emma has started consistently leaving us presents. They usually come in the form of our dirty socks, left soggy in the cat water dish. Or, sometimes she drags them out once they're soaked and leaves them soggy for us in the middle of the kitchen floor. So we step on them. Gross.

Last night, she went into the bathroom and got this roll of toilet paper (still in the bag), and brought it out into the living room and then sat proudly beside it! Haha.

So FULL!

Tonight Mom and Dad had Adam, Peter and I over for dinner. I made a cake! We had steak and a baked potato and then Dad did my favorite joke. The one where he stuffs his shirt with a pillow and waits for us to notice how "full" he is. Hahahah!

ICB's at BW3's!

Today after work, the gang met up at BW3's to celebrate the fact that it was Friday. It was an exciting day because Mike had his first ever Irish Car Bomb! He was skeptical beforehand, but sure did have a second! Hooray! After that, Yumi and I drank this crazy sour $1 apple martini.

Dirty 30!

This weekend was Summer's 30th Birthday celebration. We celebrated with a full weekend full of birthday fun! On Friday, Summer, Maia, Suzanne and I drove up to Columbus. We were staying the night at the Hilton at Easton, so we checked into the hotel and then went to Bar Louie for a martini. We ended up spending most of the afternoon there, having fancy drinks and appetizers.

Afterward, we did a tiny bit of shopping then went to an Irish pub for some fish and chips! Anne, Rabecca, and Heidi met up with us there. After dinner we went to the Shadowbox Cafe to see the Sex at the Box comedy show, which was NOT funny. We had a good time anyway, but we do not recommend the show. After the show we headed back to the hotel, where Yumi met up with us! We got in our fancy clothes and took a taxi to this club, Wall Street. Amy met up with us there!

This whole time, Summer was unaware that there was a surprise underway. Christine was supposed to come down for Summer's party on Saturday night, but was surprising her by coming early, and meeting us Friday night at the club! Christine and I kept in touch via text messaging, and I snuck away at the club to meet her and we went back over to where summer was an SURPRISED her! I love surprises. It was a very successful surprise.

We danced at Wall Street for a long time, then went around the corner to this other club, Fabric. It had two sections - a lounge and a dance floor. In the lounge, there were zero patrons, and on the dance floor, there were about eight. It was DEAD! We had fun anyway though. As we were leaving the doorman was like, "We promise there will be more people here next time!" And we were all like "NEXT TIME!!!! hahahahahhaha!!!!"

We went back to the hotel and crashed.

Saturday night, Summer and J had a party at their place. It was a low key event, since Friday night was the wild night. It was great, we had some beers and some serious snacks. There was chili, chips, meat balls, artichoke dip, double stuffed oreos, shrimp, cheese, s'mores, and MORE! It was an eat fest. There was also hot tub time and a fire pit. It was a fun weekend. Happy Birthday, Summer!

Family Visit and also Ping Pong

I just got a surprise visit from my family! Mom and Dad and Pete were in a meeting up at the Ridges and they stopped by to see my cube. So they posed for my web cam!

Last night I played some ping pong after working on the Gravel Rouser number plates, and I forgot how fun ping pong is. We figured out a way to play with three balls at once! We formed a pattern, sort of like juggling. We couldn't keep the balls going for very long but I bet if we practiced we could get really good! Here is a diagram. Craig would serve a ball and then as soon as I hit it to Atira, he would serve ball #2:

Art Space

I'm sure you know what I'm talking about when I say "my skull sweatshirt" because I wear it pretty much all the time so it's in millions of my pictures. Anyway! Craig just made another batch, so Summer and I drove up to Columbus to pick up our new sweatshirts and see Craig's art space!

My new skull sweatshirt is ORANGE. Whee! Summer and I got to Columbus around 4, and checked out Craig's space. It's HUGE! It's a whole giant garage. We all drove to this big art store and got a couple things, then went to Northstar for dinner. I got the Thai Chicken Burrito, my favorite!

Then we went back to Craig's and drank some beers and he taught us a lot of stuff about printing shirts. Summer already knew some of it, and she caught on quickly! It was so fun to get to use all the supplies and make our own stuff! We made a small pile of tank tops and shirts. By the time we were finished, we were hungry again so we went to Easy Street Cafe for dinner #2. We split fried calamari and a big greasy awesome greek pizza. We didn't get back to Athens until 1 a.m.!

Pleasure Party

Roslie hosted a "Pleasure Party" tonight. It was pretty hilarious and fun and a little embarassing. Rose and Leslie made lasagna and got out the old chocolate fountain. There were tons of girls! We passed around all SORTS of stuff. And tasted all kinds of weird body lotions and sparkles. Quite the bonding experience!

The hostess was this southern lady and she was all giggly and wouldn't say "penis" instead she said "unit" and every time she said it we had to pass around this big dildo and scream "UNIT!" real loud like on Pee Wee's Playhouse. (The screaming part wasn't an official rule, it was more of a rule I instigated and insisted everyone abide by.) Whoever had the UNIT at the end of the party won a free prize. Suzanne won!

San Francisco!

The San Francisco trip was incredible! We did tons of eating, tons of shopping, and tons of sight seeing.

The first day, Mer and I explored the city and did a little shopping. That night, Jason came over from Berkeley to go out to dinner with us! We went to the Bluejay Café. I had crab cakes, they were delicious!

On Friday, Beth had the day off work, so Mer, Beth and I went shopping. We went all over the place! It was sort of a rainy day, so we tried to stay inside shops. I was feeling pretty sick that day. I was on antibiotics for my neverending cold, and had been feeling better the day we left for the trip, but the airplane messed me up! I couldn’t hear out of my left ear, which was pretty uncomfortable. We stopped into a pub and I had a hot toddy, and it definitely made me feel better.

We ate lunch that day at a little Italian place. I had sausage pasta. Mmm. That night, Jason met us out again, along with Beth and Renee’s friend John. We went to this restaurant called Chow. By then, I had called some doctor friends and picked myself up some Sudafed and some Mucinex, hoping to open up my ears. Dinner was delicious! Everyone kept telling me to plug my nose and blow to clear my ears, but I have a lot of trouble doing that because when I was about 10, I broke my ear drum. That was incredibly painful, so I’m always cautious about my ears these days. Anyway, after two beers, and the sinus drugs, I got a little bit braver and blew just a LITTLE bit harder. My ear unclogged! HOORAY! We had a big toast to celebrate. For dinner, I shared a pizza with Mer, and had a salad. We got awesome goat cheese for an appetizer.

On Saturday, we did a bunch more shopping! Renee, Pete and Dan came this time also. We shopped all day, but spent the afternoon at a pub enjoying amazing cheeseburgers. AMAZING ones. The Banana Republic downtown was the biggest store I think I’ve ever seen. The petite section was the size of the entire Banana Republic at Easton in Columbus! There were two stores, winding staircases, BATHROOMS. It was incredible. I bought some jeans.

Saturday night, we had cocktails at a fancy lounge, then headed to Suppenkuche, the traditional German restaurant. We had an AWESOME TIME! The bartenders were so nice, and they helped you decide which German beer you’d like the best from their extensive draft selection. I had Franziskaner, which was soooo good. Dinner was incredible too. We ate a ton of meat. We traded bites, and Beth’s was definitely the best. She was brave and ordered the “Roasted Suckling Pig.” It was SO good. The waitress was awesome. I asked her if the T-shirts they were wearing were for sale, and she said “Yes! They’re $20!” Then she whispered, “If you tell me it’s your birthday, I’ll just GIVE you one.” I replied, “IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!” Renee said, “It’s my birthday too! I’ll take a Medium!” Hah! Renee, Mer and I all got free shirts.

We also tried these shots called Underberg, they’re little bottles called “digestives.” They’re supposed to make you feel better after a hearty meal. They’re fun because everyone gets their own tiny bottle, and you POUND them against the table over and over again to shake them up. It’s fun because it causes a scene. Then you drink the whole bottle at once. It tastes like licorice and it really DOES make you feel better! After Suppenkuche, most people hung out, but Mer and I went to bed right away. We were so full from meat and beer!

On Sunday, we went downtown to the Ferry Building to see the bike race. It was the first day of the Tour of California, and there were tons of people there! We watched for awhile and then Mer and I walked to Fisherman’s Wharf to see the sea lions. They were the CUTEST. They’re so funny! I took some movies of them, check them out:

That afternoon, Dan had a barbecue! Beth got him some fancy meat for Valentine’s Day, so they grilled that up, along with a bunch of other stuff. It was fun to be able to grill out in February!

Monday was our last day. Mer and I walked to Golden Gate Park, which is HUGE! We went to the Japanese Tea Garden, and had tea and snacks and walked around and took one million pictures! It was beautiful. That afternoon we did some shopping, and for lunch we ate Belgian Fries! They had tons of dipping sauces to choose from. I had Curry Ketchup. YUM.

Monday evening, we went over to Beth’s apartment to have some beers. Her apartment is SO cute. Tons of pink and vintage! After beers, we went to Chow. I wanted to go there again because the first night was so delicious! This time we went to the other location, Park Chow. We got the best table, upstairs by the fireplace! More delicious food and beers.

On Tuesday, we flew home, and I wish the vacation would never end!

San Francisco, here I come!

I have been sick for the past couple of weeks (bronchitis, tonsillitis, the works!), so I am behind on updates. They will come soon, but first I wanted to announce that I'm going on vacation tomorrow! For Christmas, my sister is taking me to San Francisco! We're going to be there for five nights. Here is the booklet she gave me on Christmas morning telling me about the trip! Scroll on down!

Poker Night!

Tonight I hosted poker night! I made a ton of chiken curry. Since our place is small, we broke up into two tables. My house was like a little casino! I still can't shake this cold, and tonight was a cough fest. It was really obnoxious, and Laura suggested I take a shot of olive oil to make me feel better. I did, and I did feel a little better! However, every time I burped for the rest of the night, it tasted like hashbrowns.

Congratulations, Jared and Jessica!

Adam and I headed to Huntington, West Virginia to attend Jared and Jessica's wedding. It was a beautiful wedding, and nice to see everyone, but unfortunately we were both sick for it. My fever wouldn't go away, my throat was killing me, and I couldn't stop coughing. Adam had the other illness that's going around town, the stomach flu. So we only managed to hit the reception for about half an hour, and then we went back to the hotel, took our medicine and were asleep by 9:30. What unfortunate timing! Jared and Jessica's first dance:

Baby Kate

Hahahah Mom emailed me this picture today from when I was a baby.
