Pot Pie

Ben has been begging for me to make him a chicken pot pie for a long time. Years, I think! I have been intimidated by pie crust. I have never made my own crust before! Once I made a biscuit-topped chicken pie, hoping that would satisfy him. Although he admitted it was delicious, he observed that it wasn't REALLY a pot pie.

One of the recent issues of Martha Stewart Food magazine had a little feature on pot pies. It offered a recipe for classic chicken pot pie, and three different variations. Feeling bold, I announced that I was going to make them ALL! Ben jumped up and down! I started this project tonight. I began with the classic recipe, although I did add dill to the crust. Pretty adventurous for a first timer!

Behold, my very first chicken pot pie. Isn't it ugly?! I had to piece it together like a jigsaw puzzle. But it TASTED delicious!

Honeymoon: Day Ten

Today was our last day! Ben found a guava in the backyard.

MMM!

We stopped at Hanalei Bay to do a little shopping, and got some smoothies at Aloha Juice Bar.

Ben bought a shirt!

Made in Hawaii. Aw yeah.

After shopping, we headed toward the airport. We picked up some wraps from Mermaids Cafe in Kapa'a for lunch.

This was possibly the best thing I ate the entire trip.

It was filled with brown rice, seared tuna, and fresh avocado. It was incredible!

We killed some time at a beach in Poipu before our flight.

Then we headed to a town called Koloa to look around. We got coffee and shave ice.

Ukelele store!

Then we headed to the airport. There was a Thai restaurant called Gingbua Thai that was very close by. We picked up a bottle of wine and had dinner there on the balcony patio.

Everything here was amazing. These spring rolls were so fresh!

Green papaya salad. We thought the green papaya salad we had earlier in the week was good, but this blew it out of the water.

Tom Yum soup. This was SPICY!!

Curry! This was also very spicy. It was AWESOME!

Our last evening with palm trees.

This place was seriously great.

On the way to return our rental car.

Time to go home! What a wonderful honeymoon!! Cheers!

Honeymoon: Day Nine

This morning, we headed to Ke'e Beach. Ben wanted to hike the Kalalau Trail again. I was still sore from the first time, so I relaxed at the beach and read my book while he hiked. You can actually see hikers from the beach!

Ben joined me on the beach after his hike.

My little monkey!

We had to be out of our house early the next morning, so we decided to get one last burrito lunch from Red Hot Mama's.

I was so happy, because all week I had been hoping that fresh ahi tuna would be one of the choices for the day, and today it WAS! It was AMAZING!!!!! And of course that delicious local avocado!

That evening, we went back to Ke'e Beach for one last sunset. We got there early this time, so we had some time to relax and really enjoy ourselves. There are these crazy one-way bridges all over the island. This one is on the way to Ke'e Beach!

There it goes!

I bet it would be fun to see the sunset from THAT boat!

Relaxing!

I brought along a snack!

Avocado poke!

Poke is cubes of raw ahi sashimi, marinated in soy sauce and sesame oil. What a treat!

You can see the sunset in our sunglasses.

There goes that ship!

Dog!

That's me chatting up another couple on the beach. We were trying to figure out if those hazy sections on the horizon were rainstorms.

We're pretty sure they totally are!

We ended up chatting with the couple until dark!!

WHOO!!!!!!
